Concert Etiquette

Please observe the following courtesies that are being taught to our music students so that everyone may enjoy the performances:

Concert Etiquette for Parents written by MENC (Music Educators of North Carolina).  Some of these are funny, but so true!

Concert Etiquette that we are focusing on with the students:

-          Plan to arrive on time.  If you do arrive after the performance has begun, wait outside the auditorium until a break between selections to enter the concert hall

-          While you never want to leave during a concert performance, emergencies do sometimes occur.  If at all possible, wait to exit the hall until a break in the performance or until a place where it will not interfere with the overall performance.

-          Take your cue form the performers or from the conductor when it comes to singing along or keeping time by clapping or stamping the feet.  It is usually best to wait for an invitation for such audience participation.

-          As a courtesy to the performers as well as to other audience members, cell phones and any technology devices should remain off during any performance.

-         Applause is what affirms to the performers that the audience is enjoying and appreciative of their efforts.  Applause for the music is held until the end of each selection or until the end of the entire performance, when the conductors arms come down to his/her sides.

-          Enjoy the performance!
